Planes, Trains and Automobiles
Today was an airport day again.
Our flight was at noon so we had a bit of time in the morning to eat, shower and pack. Our friendly, neighbourhood Tuktuk driver escorted us to the airport and neither Jack nor I were really quite sure on if we should tip him. The hotel receptionist at some point said it would be courteous to but I for one have no idea what the appropriate tipping amount should be. The last American cash I had on me was a ten so I gave it to him which seemed to be alright because he smiled and left.
As I said a few days ago our flight from Siem Reap to Bangkok got cancelled and rescheduled so the two of us were curious to see how this was going to go.
Turns out everything went super smooth after deciphering a semi-cryptic email from a woman at Cambodian Air. The Siem Reap international departure hall is actually pretty nice. For some strange reason they have a Burger King and a Dairy Queen which, out of all western fast food seemed a random combination to me but ah well I won't say no to a burger.
We watched two episodes of Kim Possible on the flight for a grand total of fifty minutes before we began our descent into Bangkok, Thailand.
A warning now to everyone travelling into Bangkok, when you leave the main terminal be sure to get a taxi from the bottom level of the airport. If you go to the bottom there will be a machine that will assign you a driver but also give you all of their details such as company, name, car ID etc. The "offical airport taxis" are a rip off and also make sure the meter is running. If they ask for a flat rate they are trying to scam you.
Throughout traveling with Jack I've learned several valuable lessons about traveling as a couple. One of them is that when I find myself in a new environment and can't find food when I'm hungry I turn into a cranky bitch. It doesn't help that Bangkok is just so ridiculously big that by the time Jack and I walked in the direction he randomly chose it was not worth turning back. We had entered a tourist district but one more inclined on site seeing than encountering anything edible. But, after being offered what looked like an entire fried squid on a stick (which we both slowly backed away from) we found a nice cafe to sit and relax in.
There are several relationship things I've learned while traveling with my boyfriend. I say learned, I guess it was more of a hands on, crash course for dummies. I've sort of weaved the lessons through a few of my other posts but I think I'll continue to mention them partly as advice for other couples (same sex or otherwise) and partly because getting stuff down in writing always helps me process things. That's more or less why I started this blog / website. As a way to have a transcription of my life that I can look back on and learn from.
Ive gotten wayyyyyyyyy to deep right now though so I'm probably going to post this then read a book or something.
