Description of Project
In November 2021, I was approached by the Director of Operations at Providence Air Ambulance to discuss the potential redesign and overhaul of their existing website. Following two initial meetings, we established a project timeline and I initiated extensive research to gain insights into digital branding and design practices adopted by similar businesses in this niche field. My aim was to familiarize myself with the industry's content and trends before providing specific recommendations.
The previous version of their website had been created nearly a decade ago, and as design preferences evolved rapidly, the company found it challenging to keep up. Therefore, a comprehensive refresh and redesign were necessary to align their online presence with contemporary standards.
The Technical Stuff
I chose Squarespace as the platform for creating their new website due to its exceptional user-friendly front-end web development capabilities. In considering the technical proficiency of my clients and the potential need for project hand-off, Squarespace stands out as an intuitive and accessible solution.
During my discussions with the client, the importance of a seamless user experience was emphasized. It was crucial for the new website to offer easy navigation, allowing users and customers to quickly find the information they needed. To achieve this, I streamlined the menu system, ensuring that all information was presented in a single, easily accessible location. Leveraging Squarespace's latest templates, I also implemented responsive design principles to ensure a smooth and consistent user experience across various devices, whether it be desktop or mobile.
Google Suite Inclusion
One of the things I made sure to do was to immediately set up PAA’s new website with Google Analytics and Google Search Console, along with Bing, so that the search engines could begin to index the new website. As indexing and ranking are part of a long-term marketing strategy I thought it best to start that process as soon as was possible.
Redesign Comparison
Whenever possible I like to include snapshots of the website as it was before my rebuild, not to shame or otherwise directly criticise the previous developer, but to showcase how current/contemporary design sensibilities evolve over time.
